Our History

Langston & J. Ray Realty

…moving toward a new tradition.

Mr. Charlie Langston and his friend, Ed Leatherbury started The Real Estate Center in 1972.  They offered a full service office in real estate and insurances services.  Then in 1975, this company divided into two separate companies and that is when Mr. Charlie opened Charlie Langston Realty, on 311 Washington Street.  His business was located in one of the town’s popular landmarks, “The Big Yellow House”.  He and his staff continued to operate a very successful real estate office until 1992 when the Big Yellow House was sold and moved off the lot to build the fast food restaurant, Wendy’s.  Mr. Charlie then moved to its present location at 101 Courthouse Square.

For 34 years Langston Realty has provided Columbus County with top, professional real estate services.  Mr. Charlie and his staff have sold thousands of homes, many commercial properties and hundreds of acres of land.  Langston has taken pride in being the “Hometown” agency with a tremendous resource to their clients with a broad bank of knowledge with professional associations, business contacts, friends and history of the area. Throughout the years several of his agents have opened their own offices, still continuing a strong and friendly working relationship with Mr. Charlie’s agency.

In June of 2006, Mr. Charlie sold Langston Realty to Jackie Ray, a broker who had worked for him for over 4 years.  Jackie is determined to continue what Mr. Charlie started back in 1972…offering the very best in customer service for both the buyer and seller which starts with trust, caring, educating, listening and much more.  Langston Realty has satisfied thousands of buyers and sellers and will continue this tradition as Ms. Ray takes the reins.
